Reverse hyperextension
The Reverse Hyperextension Machine is a lower-body and posterior-chain exercise machine designed to target the glutes, hamstrings, and lower back through controlled hip extension movements. The user lies face-down on a padded platform with the torso supported and the legs hanging freely, then swings the legs upward against resistance. This allows a natural, pendulum-style swinging motion while providing support and stability, which reduces compressive stress on the spine.
How it works
The padded bench holds the upper body in place, so the lower back and hips can work without having to stabilize the entire torso. Resistance comes from a weighted pendulum arm, a flywheel, a belt, or a cable system, depending on the model. As the legs swing up to hip level and lower again under control, the posterior chain is loaded through a full range of motion. At the bottom of the swing, the lumbar spine is gently decompressed, which many lifters find helpful for back recovery and mobility.
